Stamp collectors who were given a new magnifying glass and tweezers for Christmas can get them ready in anticipation of Spink's Fine Stamps and Covers of Hong Kong and China, on January 24.
We already taken a look at the exceptional complete sheet of 25 5ca. orange Large Dragon stamps from 1978, estimated at HK$300,000-400,000 (a maximum estimate of over $32,000).
In terms of hammer value, the Large Dragons will be the stars of the show.
But if your philatelic tastes bend more towards the historic, then look no further than a cover of 1885-88 Small Dragons.
1885-88 Small Dragons (HK$35k-40k) |
Mounted on an envelope to Germany - dated April 10, 1892 - are a trio of 3ca. stamps beneath a blue Peking customs seal, alongside Shanghai Customs, French pack and Koln arrival inks.
This very well-travelled envelope is in fresh and fine condition, and will hit the auction block estimated at HK$35,000-40,000 (a maximum estimate over $3,200).
Full auction catalogues are available to buy from Spink's website. Watch this space for more information on both auctions.
