1897 $1 Red Revenue valued at $1m with Interasia

Interasia Auctions will offer China's 1897 Red Revenue small $1 stamp in what promises to be the largest philatelic auction in Hong Kong this year.

With only 32 examples of this temporary issue known, the Red Revenue stamp stands among the world's greatest rarities



The auction will be held on June 29-July 1, with 2,800 lots expected to total more than $6.4m.

The Red Revenue, one of China's most famous rarities and one of only 32 recorded examples, will sell with a $773,500-1m valuation.

Also starring in the sale will be an 1880 cover from Great Britain to China, which bears stamps from both nations, including a China 3 candarin Large Dragon that was used to pay Chinese internal postage. It is expected to see $90,500-116,000.
