1890 IR Official stamp looks set to reach $100,000

A Great Britain 1890 £1 brown violet IR Official stamp is valued at up to $100,000.

The issue, which displays the orbs watermark, is among the rarest British Empire stamps on the market.

IR Official stamp

The issue is among the rarest British Empire Officials

IR stands for Inland Revenue. These high value stamps were used exclusively by the department for bulk mailing.

Very few have survived to the present day. This one is among the best, marred only by a (very) faint crease to the right.

It will be among the main highlights of Robert A Siegel’s Worldwide Stamps and Postal History sale on April 25-28.

We’ve got some truly exceptional British stamps in our online store.
