An 1859 1c light blue “1 Ce” omitted was among the lead lots in Robert A Siegel’s sale of the Keith J Starmer collection of Hawaiian Numeral Issues.
The error is missing the '1 ce' printing at the bottom
It made $15,500 in the June 28 auction in New York.
This stamp is one of only two examples of this rare error in existence.
Hawaiian stamps are particularly prized by collectors, as the islands’ remoteness meant they were produced in very small numbers.
