The Beatles' Help! piano auctions for $95,000 in Liverpool

A piano used by the Beatles to compose Help!, the title track to their 1965 album and motion picture, has sold for £57,500 ($94,759).

The sale took place at Omega Auctions in Liverpool this afternoon (March 20).

The Beatles Help! piano
The piano was bought from Twickenham Studios by director Richard Lester during the 1960s

The piano was formerly housed in Twickenham Studios where the band were filming and was also used during the composition of Yesterday - one of their most enduring songs.

Director Richard Lester, who worked with the band on the movie, commented that upon receiving the go-ahead to use "Help!" as the film's title, the band started work on the song "immediately at the studio using the Bechstein piano and continued working on it on their car journey home and throughout that evening."
