Sgt Pepper Bobby Breen cutout to make $70,000?

The cardboard cutout of Bobby Breen from the Beatles’ iconic Sgt Pepper album cover could make up to $70,000.

The lot will auction in Paddle8 Auctions’ dedicated online Beatles sale, which will close on June 14.

Bobby Breen was a famous child star in the 1930s

Breen was a Canadian-born child star, famous for his high-pitched singing voice. He starred in a series of films during the 1930s, which the various Beatles would have grown up watching.

That estimate is probably a bit of a stretch though.

The lot last sold for £25,000 ($32,270) at auction in 2016, and while leading pieces of Beatles memorabilia have grown consistently in value, an almost 200% increase in 12 months is unlikely.

Breen is also one of the more niche faces on the album’s cover.

That said, the record for a Sgt Pepper cutout was set at $42,000 for a gnome at Heritage Auctions last year.

The present lot is also the only cutout to have been signed by artist Peter Blake, who shot the cover.

A cutout of actor Tony Curtis (who appears just behind Oscar Wilde) is selling at Heritage Auctions with an estimate in excess of $37,500.

Also up for grabs is a photograph of the band’s feet, taken at The Deauville Hotel in Miami, Florida on February 16, 1964 - just before their second appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.

It was taken by a young Lynn Goldsmith, who went on to become a celebrated photographer.

The lot is accompanied by Goldsmith’s own Beatles scrapbook, which contains a range of materials relating to the evening.

It's valued at $25,000-30,000.
