New York opera auction offers 90% of its props and costumes

The New York City Opera has decided to part ways with 90% of its current holding of props, costumes and sets in an online auction that will close on January 30.

New york City Opera auction
The auction is a collector's dream, featuring weapons, antiques and furniture in addition to the costumes, though bidders will have to compete with interest from 10 other opera houses

Bids are already being accepted for items from 80 or more famous productions, such as La Traviata, The Marriage of Figaro and La Boheme.

The auction is an attempt to save money, due to the rental of the New Jersey warehouse where the opera house stores the outfits costing more than it saves from re-using the costumes.
