A rare handwritten, signed letter from legendary blues musician Lead Belly will sell at Goldin Auctions.
Lead Belly died the year after he sent this letter
The missive dates to 1948, the year before he died, and concerns plans for his upcoming European tour.
Lead Belly (born Huddie Ledbetter in 1889) was suffering from the early stages of ALS at the time. His symptoms would worsen on the road, leading the tour to be cut short.
Very few examples of his signature survive.
This letter originates from an important archive of material that sold for $33,750 at Bonhams in 2014.
