A guitar used onstage by Johnny Ramone (1948-2004) is among the headline lots of an upcoming sale at RR Auction, which begins on January 15 and ends on January 21.
The 1965 Mosrite Ventures V1 guitar, which he played at MTV in 1988, is set to auction with a minimum bid of $5,000.
It was sold to friend and roadie Gene Frawley and features a strong inscription on the body that reads "Best wishes, Johnny Ramone, 5/22/90".
The house commented: "The first photographic evidence of Ramone playing the guitar comes from a show at the Eagle's Hippodrome in Seattle on May 5, 1983.
"Johnny most often used this guitar for TV appearances and it can be seen up-close during a 1988 performance on MTV.
"This is one of just nine Mosrite guitars owned by Ramone known to exist—an exceedingly rare and historically important piece of music history."
Johnny Ramone was a founding member of the seminal punk band, who exploded out of the fertile New York scene in 1974.
