Hendrix writes: "Your sister is out of sight plus beautiful plus groovy plus ALIVE plus electric. I hope well for you in the future of whatever you may go through. Remember yourself."
The sister the letter refers to was on a flight from New York to LA when she noticed Hendrix was also on the plane.
The consignor explains in a letter of provenance accompanying the lot: "She was too embarrassed to ask for his autograph…she finally asked him but he said he was a little busy right then…
"As he was leaving the plane, he went up to my sister and apologized… and said give me your brother's address and I will send him my autograph.
"A few days later I received a letter and autograph from Jimi Hendrix."
The letter is dated November 16, 1968 - the day that Electric Ladyland made it to the number one spot in the US.
The rarity of the letter, combined with the significance of the date to Hendrix's career, is likely to see it soar past its opening bid.
The sale will also include the last document signed by all four of the Beatles.
