Bonhams is offering a letter written by George Harrison to photographer Astrid Kirchherr in its June 28 Entertainment Memorabilia sale.
The lot is valued at £15,000-20,000 ($19,307-25,743).
The letter is written on paper headed Palace Court Hotel, Bournemouth
The Beatles met Astrid in Hamburg in 1960, after she went to see them perform at the Kaiserkeller Club.
She and Stuart Sutcliffe, the band’s original bassist, were engaged soon afterwards. Sutcliffe died suddenly and tragically of a brain aneurysm in 1962.
She remained in contact with the rest of the band afterwards, particularly Harrison – with whom she was always close.
This letter dates to August, 1963, soon after the release of Please Please Me.
While the band were pulling in huge crowds, Harrison clearly hadn’t quite grasped the magnitude of what was happening.
He writes in part: “Could you look through your photographs and find some - or all of the photos that have The Beatles either all together or separately…
“and then if you felt in a HAPPY ASTRID MOOD, do you think you could either give or lend them to me...
“You know that Paul and John are going to be very rich soon, when they collect the money they have made by writing all those songs, and I don't think that you would like to see me poor and hungry, so I have decided to make a book.
“…I hope to sell it to all the nice people and then I can buy food with the money...Can't I?”
