Four photographs of Madonna up 200% on valuation

A set of four Polaroid photographs of Madonna with her close friend Martin Burgoyne has sold for $7,500 at Myers Fine Art in Florida.

The photographs, sold as a single lot on February 9, are unpublished and formed part of an archive of material pertaining to Madonna and Burgoyne, who lived together in New York's Lower East Side in the early 1980s.

The lot achieved a 200% increase on a $2,500 high estimate.

The pair befriended many of New York's most important artistic figures, including Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquiat.

Burgoyne was also heavily involved in the early years of Madonna's career.

He died of AIDS in 1986 at the age of just 23.

A group of 13 black and white images of Madonna made $5,500, up 358.3% on a $1,200 estimate.

The photographs were taken in a booth in Times Square in 1982 and were used as the plan for the cover of Burning Up (1983), which Burgoyne designed.

A Polaroid photograph believed to have been taken by either Andy Warhol or Maripol sold for $5,500. It shows Madonna and Burgoyne wearing outlandish wigs and has remained unpublished since the early 1980s.

We have this signed tank top worn by Madonna on the cover of her 2003 single Love Profusion.
