The first piano Elvis Presley bought is selling at Julien’s Auctions on May 20.
Elvis bought the instrument on finance from the O.K. Houck Piano Company in Memphis, Tennessee on September 30, 1955.
It cost him $281.75 over the next 12 months.
Elvis gave the piano to his cook during the 1960s
This was a pivotal time in Presley’s career, five months before the release of his first #1 single, Heartbreak Hotel (1956).
He spent much of 1955 touring the south, establishing himself as a phenomenal live act with an extraordinary hold over his audience.
In the 1960s he picked up another piano and moved this one out of his music room at Graceland. Later he gave it to his cook, Christine Strickland.
It’s now valued at around $100,000-200,000.
A 1967 Ludwig drum kit played by Michael Shrieve of Santana at Woodstock in 1969 is expected to make $80,000-100,000.
Shrieve is widely regarded as one of the greatest drummers of all time.
He joined Santana in 1969 and played on four of their first albums - two using this drum kit, which he’d bought a few months before.
It can be heard on some of the band’s biggest hits, including Black Magic Woman.
John Lennon’s illustration of the Beatles’ Sgt Pepper cover will also star in the auction.
