The images date to shortly after the band returned briefly from Hamburg and show them wearing the leather jackets they adopted in Germany.

One of the images is unpublished; both were sold alongside their copyright.

Other lots included a photograph of the band with six young women taken at St John's Hall in Tuebrook in 1961 that made £9,360 ($15,513).

Stephen Bailey, manager of The Beatles Shop, told the Liverpool Echo: "It was a very successful auction on the whole. We had all sorts of people making bids, but generally speaking it's collectors who get on the phone.

"It's great to see items do well at auction because it means the spirit of the Beatles is truly alive and well, both here in Liverpool and across the world. An auction like this attracts a big international audience."

We have a range of Beatles memorabilia available, including this extremely rare signed copy of A Hard Day's Night - one of only 8-10 in the world.
