An outstanding collection of rare movie posters and lobby cards from The Three Stooges has sold at Heritage Auctions.

Any pre-1940s Three Stooges poster is highly sought after by collectors, but the condition of this example makes it exceptional

The collection formed part of the auction house's July 27-28 Movie Posters Signature Auction, with 17 items realising a total of $162,958. Leading was a very fine one sheet for the 1938 film Mutts to You, which sold for $28,680.

Also selling was a one sheet for Playing the Ponies, which made $26,290.

Three Stooges movie posters are incredibly scarce, mainly due to their age and ephemeral nature. It is even rarer to find a collection of this size in such good condition.

Also selling at Heritage was a unique insert poster for 1931's Frankenstein, which made an impressive $262,900.
