A 1947 Academy Award medal for still photography, presented to Ernest Bachrach, sold for $45,049 at RR Auction on January 23.
Bachrach was the photographer for some of the most iconic movies in Hollywood history, including Citizen Kane and King Kong.

The medal was presented for his work on The Farmer's Daughter and Crossfire, and is one of only three handed out for photography in the history of the awards - with the others going to Merritt Sibbald in 1941 and Scotty Welbourne in 1942.
Alongside his work in continuity and marketing, Bachrach is known for some exceptional portraits of the biggest stars of the era, including Orson Welles and Ingrid Bergman.
A signed photograph of Marilyn Monroe was another highlight, realising $32,525.
The circa 1953 image shows the star reclining on a bed with a dedication to choreographer Jack Cole in the upper left corner: "Jack—you certainly can—and I'm not mad! Marilyn."

Cole worked with the star on five films, including Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and was reportedly uncharacteristically patient with her.
He also trained other well known actresses of the golden age, including Greta Garbo and Rita Hayworth.
