Fidel Castro - He's impossible to ignore

I have a superb autograph for you today.

It gives you a huge amount of history for less than £3,000.

And it raises a good question I'm often asked:

“Do you have to admire someone to own their signature?”

My answer is absolutely not.

Some of history's rarest and most valuable autographs belong to people you wouldn't want to sit in the same room with.

But that doesn't make them any less important.

For better or worse, they changed the world we live in.

So you'll always learn a great deal from owning them.

And if you're building a collection of real depth, you need these autographs to tell the full story.

That's certainly true of this man.

Impossible to ignore.

Paul Fraser Collectibles | Fidel Castro There's no denying Fidel Castro's place in history.

He was a towering force in world politics for half a century.

He caused a revolution, ruled Cuba with ruthless determination for 49 years, and almost triggered a nuclear war.

It really doesn't matter whether you see him as a brutal, power-mad dictator or a champion of the people.

You can't build a 20th century history collection without him.

So if you're going to own his signature, make sure you own a good one.

A high quality example with a great back-story will always hold its value.

And that's exactly what I'm offering you today.

A strange moment in America.

Paul Fraser Collectibles| Fidel Castro

Fidel Castro gives a speech for the Women Lawyers Association of New York on April 21, 1959.

Our story takes place in April 1959.

Just three months after Fidel Castro swept to power in the Cuban Revolution, he made a famous PR visit to the U.S.

His mission was to charm America, and shore up public support for his new government.

So Castro hit the tourist hotspots, followed by an army of eager reporters.

  • He went sightseeing at the Empire State Building;
  • Fed peanuts to elephants at the Bronx Zoo;
  • Kissed babies and beauty pageant winners;
  • And tossed baseballs at Yankee Stadium.

It was a strange moment in history, before the world knew what to make of Castro's regime. His charisma hid the brutality to come.

And this very fine autograph captures it perfectly.

A superb historic signature.

Paul Fraser Collectibles | Fidel Castro signed invitation cardOn April 21, 1959, Castro was the guest of honour at a meeting of the Women Lawyers Association of New York.

This is an original invitation to that event

Castro gave his talk at the Hilton Hotel, and proved a hit with his upper-class audience.

According to Time Magazine, he drew “fluttery glances” from attendees and one woman remarked "Doesn't he remind you of a younger Jimmy Stewart?"

The invitation card measures 4” by 5” and is in very fine condition.

And Castro has signed the reverse for one of the guests.

It's an excellent example of Fidel Castro's autograph.

It's clearly signed in crisp blue ink with no personal inscription.

And in terms of quality, it will sit comfortably next to the finest signatures in your collection.

The best autographs all have this...

Paul Fraser Collectibles | Fidel Castro signed invitation cardThe best autographs have a certain special quality.

You always know it when you see it.

They're more than a signature. They have character. A real sense of time and place.

And the quirky details of their history make it a tale worth retelling.

That's what I really like about this item.

Just one year earlier Castro was hiding in mountain forests, waging guerrilla warfare and being hunted like a dog by 10,000 government soldiers.

And now here he was - rubbing shoulders with respected lawyers and wealthy New York socialites, as he toured around New York like one of The Beatles...

This autograph on this invitation tells you that entire story.

That's the 'certain special something' that sets it apart.
