Truman Capote is best known for his classic true crime novel In Cold Blood (1966)

They were among the highlights of a major sale of entertainment memorabilia on September 24, beating an estimate of $6,000 by a staggering 650%.

Capote (1924-1984) left his ashes to close his friend Joanne Carson, wife of talk show host Johnny Carson.

Auction house CEO Darren Julien told CNN: "We had people from Russia, Germany, China, South America and here in the US who had interest in them.

"I anticipated it could sell for over $10,000, but didn't anticipate it going to $45,000."
