A pair of Roger Vivier x Christian Dior evening shoes (circa 1957-1959) sold at Sotheby’s Paris yesterday.

Vivier Dior shoes

Roger Vivier often collaborated with fashion mogul Christian Dior

The lot realised $27,996, almost 10 times its $2,944 estimate, in an auction of pieces from celebrated Parisian boutique Didier Ludot.

Vivier (1903-1998) is one of the most influential shoe designers of all time, having pioneered the stiletto in 1954.

These richly opulent specimens, described by Sotheby’s as “the ideal Cinderella shoe", are embroidered with rhinestones and crystals.
