A red leather shoe that belonged to Pope Pius IX (1792-1878) is expected to make more than $6,000.
The shoe, along with a fragment of the Pope's cassock, was given to a convent in Paris as a gift in 1866.
Pius IX was the final sovereign ruler of the Papal States, which became part of a unified Italy in 1870 after a protracted war with its neighbours.
It will sell as part of RR Auction's September 14 sale.
