The Fiat 500L Pope Francis chose to use when he visited the US last year has sold for $82,000.

The lot was offered in a charity sale at the Philadelphia Auto Show on January 29. It beat an estimate of $30,000 by 173.3%.

The Pope's appearance in the tiny car had a miraculous effect on Fiat's sales in the US, boosting them by around 35%.

The proceeds will go to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and a number of Catholic charities.
