Lady Gaga's Twitter '20m' landmark heralds more memorabilia success

The self-proclaimed "Queen of Twitter", aka disco pop eccentric Lady Gaga, once again lived up to her title by becoming the first person with 20 million followers on the social networking website.

dress sold for $31,250

Past success for the Born This Way singer included overtaking pop rival Britney Spears (with 13.5 million followers) back in August 2010.

She has also overtaken Canadian pop star Justin Bieber, who has 18 million followers.

This means that Lady Gaga has attracted an average of five million new Twitter followers each year since setting up her account in March 2008.

And the secret to her success might be in 'giving back to her fans'. Research by SCA/Star recently found that Gaga was the #1 celebrity signer in 2011.

However, even though she is a prolific signer, we've seen Gaga signatures on the markets for £375 - quite a lot more than most of her pop contemporaries.

Elsewhere, four colour polaroids featuring Gaga taken by photographer Nobuyoshi Araki were sold by Phillips de Pury & Co for £4,750 in 2010. This was well over their £1,800-2,500 estimate.

More recently, a Beverly Hills sale included the auctioning of a Gaga photoshoot-worn costume for $31,250.

And the prop gun used in GaGa's video for her hit single "Born This Way" brought $7,680.
