Collectors had the chance to flush their money into a very different kind of memorabilia investment on Saturday (August 28) with the sale of Beatles legend John Lennon's toilet.
Used by the A Day in the Life singer at his home in Tittenhurst Park, Berkshire from 1969-1971, the toilet was among 295 lots of Fab Four memorabilia sold by the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

In the end, the blue and white porcelain lavatory realised a final price of £9,500 (around $14,700). According to reports, it had been stored in the shed of seller John Hancock for 40 years.
Other highlights in the sale - part of Liverpool's 33rd annual Beatles Convention - included a rare mono copy of Lennon and wife Yoko Ono's Two Virgins LP, and a harmonica which belonged to his son, Julian. Both items brought £2,500 (about $3,900).
The appearance of an item of Julian Lennon memorabilia was particularly interesting. Lennon Jr is a multi-million selling musician in his own right, and it was his childhood drawing of a school classmate which inspired The Beatles' Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
