The original licence plates from the limousine JFK was riding in when he was assassinated in 1963 have sold for $100,000.
The exceptional lot crossed the block at Heritage Auctions in New York on November 7 as part of a sale of political memorabilia and Americana.

The plates were removed after the incident, when the limo (codenamed SS-100-X) was taken into auto shop Hess & Eisenhardt for a major security upgrade. A bullet-proof roof and windows were duly added. and it transported President Lyndon Johnson until 1967.
