A 1916 poster advertising Houdini's famous Water Torture Cell is to sell at Potter & Potter Auctions in Chicago.
|
It will lead the June 25 magic posters auction with an estimate of around $50,000-70,000.
Houdini wrote on the full horror of the illusion (claustrophobes beware): "Imagine yourself jammed head foremost in a cell filled with water, your hands and feet unable to move, and your shoulders tightly lodged in this imprisonment."
The poster includes notice of a $1,000 reward for anyone that can prove Houdini is somehow breathing underwater.
Magician David Copperfield paid $150,000 for the original cell in a 2004 auction.
The record for a Houdini poster is $67,166, set for one advertising his starring role in 1919 movie The Grim Game.
We have this stunning signed Houdini photograph for sale.
