A lock of George Washington's hair is to sell in an auction of political memorabilia at Heritage Auctions.

The piece is offered with an opening bid of $10,000 ahead of the December 3 sale.
It's accompanied by a letter of provenance explaining: "This lock of President George Washington's hair has been in the continuous possession of the extended families of Lewis Morris (1726-1798) and Robert Hunter Morris (1700-1764) since 1789."
Another lock of Washington's hair made $18,750 at Heritage in 2015.
