Daleks threaten to exterminate Bonhams

For 47 years, the Daleks have been one of the most menacing and best known threats to humankind to appear on television screens.

And two of them are going under the hammer along with a number of lots of Doctor Who memorabilia at Bonhams, on Wednesday (February 24).

Since their first 1963 appearance in Doctor Who, the ever-popular British sci-fi TV series, Daleks have come to be regarded as one of the most iconic baddies in the genre.

They were originally the brainchild of Terry Nation, the Welsh novelist and screenwriter; who also coined and originally voiced their chilling cry of "Exterminate! Exterminate!".

Each of the two Daleks looking for a new home at Bonhams starred in the Doctor Who adventure Remembrance of the Daleks, in October 1988.

Bearing the classic Dalek design - which has remained largely unchanged since the 1960s - it has all the familiar weapons of Dalek menace, including a gun, gun stick, plunger and rods.

The Imperial Dalek Mk 2 (estimated
at £5k-7k)

Painted in white with gold-painted details, it is made from a fibre glass and wood construction.

Despite gaining a few dents and bruises over the years - presumably in its various battles with the Doctor - this Imperial Dalek Mk 2 has lost none of its iconic presence.

Standing an impressive 67 inches in height, it will auction with an estimate of £5,000-7,000.

An Imperial Dalek Mk 1 from Remembrance of the Daleks is also for sale. At a slightly shorter 65 inches, it carries an estimate of £2,500-3,500.

Hopefully, they will auction in a building without stairs.
