Atari landfill site games realise combined total of $37,000

A collection of Atari games discovered in a landfill site in Alamogordo, New Mexico realised a combined total of $37,000 in a high profile eBay sale.

The games were excavated from a landfill site in New Mexico earlier this year

The top lot was an ET: The Extra-Terrestrial cartridge that sold for $1,537.

Atari dumped the games in 1983 following the colossal failure of its ET tie in, widely derided as the worst video game ever made.

In April, a number of the cartridges were freed from the ground as part of a documentary. The revenue from the sale will benefit the city of Alamogordo.
