Adidas x Apple trainers to star at Heritage Auctions

A pair of trainers Apple produced in collaboration with Adidas is among the most intriguing pieces on offer in Heritage Auctions’ The Future is Now sale.

The auction, which will feature a selection of sneakers and urban art, is the first of its kind to be held at a major auction house.

Adidas Apple shoes

These ultra-rare Adidas x Apple trainers were made for Apple employees

These Adidas x Apple shoes were made solely for Apple employees in the early 1990s.

It’s unknown exactly how many were produced, but only two pairs are still known to exist.

This lot was found at a garage sale in San Francisco’s Bay Area. The buyer presumably picked it up for substantially less than its $30,000 estimate.

Apple memorabilia is in hot demand, with early examples of the company’s computers selling for sums close to the $1m mark.

Leon Benrimon, Heritage’s director of modern and contemporary art, said: "The wild popularity for any Apple product is without question, but that passion might only be rivaled by the appetite of the sneaker collectors.

"This pair of sneakers is incredibly rare and the back story is crazy. The fact that they were produced when Steve Jobs was running Apple makes them even more collectible and valuable."

The sale will also feature a complete set of all-white Air Jordans, given by Michael Jordan to Kobe Bryant as a retirement gift last year.
