Henry Repeating Rifle auctions for $111,500 in California

One of the finest 1st Model Henry Repeating Rifles known to exist has sold with outstanding results as part of Carol Watson's Orange Coast Auctions' Premiere Firearms auction, held on August 3 in California.

Henry Repeating Rifle 1st Model
The Henry rifle was particularly valued by civil war-era soldiers due to its rapid firing rate

The superb rifle sold for $111,625, moving toward the top end of its $90,000-120,000 estimate.

The rifle is in magnificent condition, having been made in 1862 by the New Haven Arms Co. Its 24 inch contoured octagon barrel retains 96% of its original blue, and its frame sports an even toffee coloured patina. The stock also has much of its original varnish.

1st Model Henry Repeating Rifles are extremely rare in this condition, as almost all were called into duty during the US civil war.
