A 24k gold and steel sabre presented by Saudi king Abdul-Aziz bin Saud to mark the creation of modern-day Saudi Arabia sold well at Osenat auction house in France on November 17.

The sword, featuring an ivory handle and long curved blade, was given to Prince Ahmad Shah Khan of Afghanistan to mark the founding of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932. It is believed to be Syrian, most likely dating to the 19th century.
It made an impressive $1.2m, meeting its top estimate.
