Hermann Historica's Spring 2013 auction saw excellent results, with a brilliant gilt powder flask selling for $64,423 as the top lot of the German sale.

The flask was initially valued $32,211, but soon soared past this to realise a 100% increase.
Made circa 1640, it boasts a curved fruitwood body, with both sides finely engraved and featuring blackened bone inlays.
On its larger panels, a scene portraying Perseus with Medusa's head sits alongside a mythological scene of an archer and a sea monster.
A truly spectacular piece, this flask is of the type produced by German manufacturer Caspar Spat, with gilt mounting and a spring-loaded spout. There are two similar examples housed in the L'Armeria Reale in Turin.
Taking place in Munich, the sale welcomed a host of arms, armour, hunting antiques and militaria.
