Nightingale's efforts in the Crimean War led to the development of modern nursing methods

The Most Honourable Order of the Bath, CB group was presented to Inspector General of Hospital A Anderson (1814-1896). Comprising five medals, it will sell with a £5,000-7,000 ($8,000-11,000) estimate.

Included are Anderson's Most Honourable Order of the Bath, CB breast badge in gold and enamel, Crimea 1854-56 medal, Second China War 1857-1860 medal, French Legion of Honour, and Turkish Crimea medal.

Florence Nightingale's exploits during the Crimean War are legendary, but they would not have been possible without Inspector General Arthur Anderson, who was the chief medical officer when the Lady of the Lamp developed "Crimean Fever", which is now known to have been brucellosis.

Also featuring in the sale will be a medal group of a doctor who served on Ernest Shackleton's Antarctic Expedition.

Paul Fraser Collectibles has a superb collection of militaria for sale.
