A Remington revolver owned by the legendary Buffalo Bill is to star at Heritage Auctions

Perhaps the most important gun owned by the legendary Buffalo Bill is to be sold through Heritage Auctions in its Legends of the Wild West sale on June 10.

The gun, a US civil war-era Remington New Model Army .44 percussion revolver, was used by William Cody, aka Buffalo Bill, in his days as a plainsman guiding America's frontier army during the Indian wars. After receiving a medal of honour for his efforts in the wars, he went on to become one of the most famous Americans of the 19th century with Buffalo Bill's Wild West show.The gun comes with impeccable provenance; itwill beaccompanied at auctionbyCody's personal business card in his position as judge advocate general of Wyoming, which bears the message: "To Charlie & Carrie Trego. This old Remington revolver. I carried and used for many years in Indian Wars and Buffalo killing. And it never failed me." Charlie Trego was a close personal friend of Cody, who received the gun as a Christmas gift in 1906. The lot, which is estimated to sell for $200,000+, will also feature a vast array of correspondence between the two friends as well as a selection of photographs showing them together.
