An outstanding case of four Le Page pistols is expected to bring a princely sum in a June 3 sale in Italy.

The auction will feature the pistols as top lot alongside an impressive array of European militaria, swords, helmets and armour.
The case of pistols once belonged to Prince Felix of Schwarzenburg, a 19th century Austrian statesman. Felix was a respected ambassador in Europe, resulting in his election as minister-president and foreign minister of Austria in 1848.
The pistols are thought to have been a gift to Felix following his appointment as minister-president. They were made by the noted French firearms manufacturer Le Page, a company renowned for its regal clientele.
The lot comprises a pair of beautifully engraved percussion pistols, a pair of pocket pistols and a complete set of original accessories. They come wonderfully presented in a wooden case bearing the Prince Felix of Schwarzenburg coat of arms. The case is expected to sell for €45,000-60,000 ($56,560-75,413), the highest estimate in the sale.
Another majestic pair of pistols, this time from the property of an Arabic sultan, will also feature in the auction. Made by the famous French maison Devisme, the lavishly decorated firearms come complete with all tools and accessories.
Expected to bring the second highest bids in the sale, the guns are estimated at €30,000-40,000 ($37,711-50,287).
The sale will also feature a spectacular Cuirassier officer's helmet, estimated at €10,000-13,000 ($12,584-16,359). The very scarce helmet would have been worn by an officer of the mounted cavalry, who served under the reign of Victor Emmanuel II (1861-1878), the first king of a united Italy since the 6th century.
