A British blunderbuss dating to the era of the American revolutionary war could make $4,000-7,000 at Morphy Auctions in Pennsylvania on January 11.
![]() The blunderbuss is likely to have been produced for an officer in the British army |
The weapon is thought to date to the 1750s or 1760s and features the original flintlock. It is engraved with foliate scrolls, with a set of initials (IJ) engraved on the barrel - likely denoting the gunsmith. Additionally it features an ebony ramrod.
It is likely the piece was made for a British officer and is described by Morphy as "the finest early blunderbuss to be yet offered by this auction house".
Was it used in anger during the American revolution?
