'Elusive' 1928 Federal banknote up for sale at Heritage

A number of rare banknotes will feature in Heritage Auction Galleries' upcoming April/May CSNS Signature Currency Auction, between April 28 and May 3.

Among the highlights this Fr. 2200-A $500 1928 Federal Reserve Note, classified as "Very Fine 30" by PMG (the Professional Numismatics Guild).

PMG also mentions a "Margin Tear" which is a tiny split not even into the design of the note, on its left side.

According to Heritage, the Schwartz and Lindquist values guide prices this note at $10,000. Only 69,120 examples of the note were ever printed, and it is today considered elusive.

Bids on this pleasing example will open at half of that amount, and the bidders will be left to decide where it finishes.

The note will auction with an estimate of $10,000-$15,000.
