$40k triple elephant coin to sell in Hong Kong

Baldwin's are offering a fascinating sale of rare coins in Hong Kong later this month.

There are two clear leaders in the sale, both from the reign of Rama V (also known as Chulalongkorn) from the Kingdom of Siam.

First, there is a Silver Pattern 1-Baht piece, with the bust of Rama V proudly displayed on the face and a triple elephant on the reverse. It is in brilliant mint state (graded MS62) and very rare, hence expected to fetch $30,000-40,000.

Second is a set of gold 1-Satang, 5-Satangs and 10-Satangs. These brilliant uncirculated pieces, with holes in the centre, are expected to bring $40,000-50,000.

Baldwin's auction takes place on February 25.
