An 1814 Joao VI prince regent gold ingot of Sabara could make $50,000-70,000 at Heritage Auctions.
The lot is among the highlights of the world and ancient coins sale in Chicago on April 9.
The ingot was issued under the rule of Joao VI |
It's one of a number of gold ingots issued as currency in Brazil between 1778 and 1833.
Heritage comments: "Few of these iconic ingots survive.
"Undoubtedly among the most desirable items in all the Brazilian series, any of those 219 surviving gold ingots will invariably - and rightfully - take center stage in the cabinet that is fortunate enough to house them.
"The present one shall be no exception, and the next owner will be delighted when looking at its legendary - and royal - pedigree."
One specimen featuring its original guia (a certificate denoting the value of the gold) realised $199,750 at Heritage in 2013.
An 1894 gold French Republic 100 franc piece is also on offer, with a valuation of $35,000-45,000.
Heritage comments: "At present time, this is singularly the finest-known certified example of this date--which is also the key to the Genius 100 Francs series--that boasts an unbelievably small mintage of just 143 pieces."
