Zsa Zsa Gabor's 'police slap' Rolls adds glamour to online sale

Hundreds of classic American muscle cars, sedans, unique automobiles, hot rods and foreign classics will be offered at DE Foeller's Classic Car Auction, this weekend (March 19-20). The Southwest Florida event is now celebrating its 14th year.

Online bidding will be offered on all items - including the 1979 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible owned by the iconic Hungarian American actress Zsa Zsa Gabor (pictured top right in her heyday).

According to DE Foeller, the Corniche has just had its first repaint in 2010, with only 48,000 one owner miles. The Rolls is still titled in Zsa Zsa Gabor's name, with the original California pink slip.

The lot notes state "this was the car [Gabor] was driving when she slapped the Beverly Hills Police officer and went to jail." The incident made national news at the time

To mark the car's unique provenance, a copy of Gabor's mugshot comes with the sale, along with "many nice pictures of her in the car."

Apparently, the car "runs great, has cold air [and] good brakes" and has been treated to a recent tune-up. It has had one minor restoration: the top and headliner was replaced in 2008 due to fogging in the rear window.

Billed as "ready to drive or put in a museum," this car is a decidedly unique piece of history from the life of the now-94-year-old actress.

In her heyday, Gabor's roles included in legendary director John Huston's 1952 film, Moulin Rouge. Television host Merv Griffin, in his autobiography, once described Gabor as "glamour personified."
