Which 'Rat Pack' star's $550,000 classic car is coming to auction?

A road going 1963 Rolls Royce which once belonged to the entertainer Sammy Davis Jr is coming to auction in California later this month with a $550,000 estimate.

The beautiful gold machine will go under the hammer at Bonhams' Carmel, California sale on August 18.

The singer and dancer was a huge car lover, and this Silver Cloud III Drophead Coupe is a real rarity, being one of only 23 equipped with left hand drive.

Sammy's 'Roller' should comfortably beat its 1999 auction performance

It is no stranger to the auction block and made $9,828 at a Barrett-Jackson sale in 1999. The mark-up in estimate this time around is evidence of the transformation in the classic car market in recent years.

The "Rat Pack" member had an army of fans during the 50s and 60s, and we believe the impact of the baby boomer generation will be keenly felt in this sale.

Cars of the stars can be big sellers at auction, especially when they are as rare as this model.

A 2003 Ferrari 575 Maranello once owned by Eric Clapton sold for £66,500 at Silverstone Auctions' classic car sale in July.

Paul Fraser Collectibles will let you know the results from the sale.
