The Rolls-Royce used for Princess Diana's 1985 US visit has sold for $122,322 in an eBay charity auction.
The Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II was first purchased from new by theBritish Embassy in 1979, but was only put to use in 1981 following two years of extensive upgrades, which included bullet-proofing and protection against gas attacks.

Upgraded to withstand bullets and gas attacks
The low-mileage vehicle spent eight years as part of the VIP fleet, before being retired in 1988.
In 1985 Princess Diana and Prince Charles embarked on a three-day visit to the US - their first to the States - with the Silver Wraith II as their transport.
During the trip, they met President and First Lady Reagan at the White House, where Diana famously danced with John Travolta.
With similar models from the same year achieving between $20,000 and $40,000, the sale displays the power of Diana at the auction block.
The sale was held by the Illinois-based Volo Auto Museum, with a portion of the proceeds going to Children with Cancer UK, a charity which the princess inaugurated in 1988.
Royal cars have a strong track record of performing well at auction.
A 1994 Aston Martin Virage Volante once used by Prince Charlesmade 119,100 ($191,500)at Bonhams' Aston Martin sale in May, while a 1984 Daimler, driven by Queen Elizabeth II between 1984 and 1990,sold for $70,000 at a US auction in 2010.
A specially engraved silver apple from Princess Diana's 1989 visit to New York will auction for 3,000 ($4,763) in the UK on November 20, further evidence of the allure of Diana with collectors.
