A 1955 Ferrari 750 Monza Scaglietti Spyder, Chassis number 0502 M, is one of the headliners at this year's RM Auctions London sale on October 26.

Significant for being the only automobile of its kind - and for being built without a headrest - the 750 Monza Scaglietti Spyder was a multiple race winner driven extensively by Ernie McAfee against the likes of Phil Hill and Carroll Shelby.

Also adding to the car's remarkable racing provenance are its periods driven by other luminaries, including Masten Gregory, from 1956-1963.

A previous owner, who purchased the Monza back in January 1998, sent the car to Modena for a complete overall which was completed to factory specifications.

According to RM, the restoration took until the year 2000 to complete. It was apparently worth it, with the car later getting its own full-colour feature in Forza magazine in May 2002.

Stardom beckoned for this Monza. Its owner then flaunted it seriously on the concours circuit with good results - its wins including at Cavallino Classic, Amelia Island and The Quail between 2003-2006.

Adding further to this car's plaudits was its receipt of Ferrari Classiche certification in 2005.

Today, the Monza is eligible for the Mille Miglia, Le Mans Historic, every Ferrari Challenge event and, in the words of RM: "indeed, every historic racing event, tour or concours worldwide.

"The possibilities are virtually limitless for its next owner," writes the auctioneer.

All eyes will surely be on this car at RM's London event.

It's an exciting coup for the international auctioneer's UK wing - especially in the wake of the World Record-priced sale of a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Prototype earlier this year.

The prototype for all future Testa Rossas, Chassis number 0666 TR sold for $16.39m and is today the most expensive Ferrari ever auctioned.
