Aston Martin classic car owned by Shane Filan of Westlife sells for $606,044

Bonhams Motor Cars and Automobilia Sale at the Goodwood Revival Meeting this weekend (16 September 2011) made a total of £4,733,625 in a packed saleroom.

Two Edwardian Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts vied with a 1971 Ferrari 365GTS/4 Daytona Spyder for top honours.

The 1971 Ferrari Daytona Spyder with coachwork by Pininfarina - one of only 25 of European specification - sold for £595,500.

One of only four surviving examples of the 1908 Silver Ghost sold for £485,500 after a protracted bidding battle.

Meanwhile, the 1911 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost - a magnificent ceremonial car which was ordered for the Delhi Durbar celebration of the Coronation of King George V and Queen Mary in December 2011 - made £419,500.

This Silver Ghost was emblazoned with the coat of arms of the Maharaja of Mysore, to whom it passed after the Delhi Durbar.

"It was very much a global effort consigning motor cars for this sale," said James Knight, Group Head of the Bonhams Motoring Department.

"My West Coast USA team worked closely with one of their local clients who consigned these Silver Ghosts to the UK sale - very much a case of placing cars in the right environment to achieve the best prices."

"In the space of six days we have conducted two sales - one at the International Autojumble at Beaulieu, and the second here today at the Goodwood Revival - with some 230 motorcars offered and a total of £7.5million."

Other highlights include a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweight at £221,500 (a record for a RHD Lightweight); a 1972 Ferrari Dino 246GT for a very strong £164,300; and a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL 'Gullwing' Coupé which made £342,500.

Also auctioned was a 1956 AC Ace-Bristol Roadster in tired, but charming condition fetched £141,200.

Elsewhere, as we previously reported, a beautiful Aston Martin DB5 owned by Shane Filan of the Irish pop group Westlife was highly sought after with interest both in the room and on the telephone.  It finally sold for £348,000 ($606,044).
