JFK's speedboat auctions for $75,000

John F Kennedy's speedboat was the top lot of an auction dedicated to the US president on the weekend.

The 1961 Century Resorter boat sold for $75,000 at the October 7 sale at Guernsey’s.

Kennedy's father won the boat in a church raffle

Kennedy's father won the boat in a church raffle and gave it to his son.

"My brother Jack drove that boat like it was PT-109," said senator Edward Kennedy, referring to his brother's wartime experiences in the Pacific. "He was a little rough on it."

Edward took ownership of the boat following his brother's assassination. It had two subsequent owners.

A Kennedy-used rocking chair achieved $30,000.

Kennedy employed rocking chairs throughout his various residences to ease a war-induced back complaint.

This example resided in Kennedy's compound at Hyannis Port.
