The first race car driven by Scottish legend Sir Jackie Stewart - a Marcos GT Xylon - will draw crowds at the Silverstone Auctions' Classic Sale on July 26-27.

Coming to auction with a £35,000-50,000 ($60,027-85,753), the rare machine is a piece of racing history as the car that one of Scotland's greatest drivers saw his first track outings in.

Racing enthusiast Barry Filer was having his race cars prepared at the Stewart family garage in 1960 when he invited the young Jakcie Steward to test with him at Oulton Park. He was so impressed with Stewart's performance that he immediately bought the Xylon for the 1961 season, with Jackie at the helm.

The following year, Stewart was ready to turn pro, and was soon winning races in a Jaguar E-Type before being signed the Ecurie Ecosse.

The car, nicknamed the Ugly Duckling, continued its racing career under Marcos founder Jem Marsh for some years before it was retired.

It's been consigned to auction by the buyer of the marque's factory, where it was discovered in 1990s and held in his private collection.

Paul Fraser Collectibles is offering an autograph from Jim Clark for sale, another fantastic collectible from a champion Scottish driver. See all our Formula One memorabilia.
