A re-creation Ferrari 365/250GT SWB has seen strong bids as part of Bonhams' Collector's Motor Cars auction, held in Oxford, UK on March 2.

The car is designed to look like the highly desirable (and highly priced) Ferrari 250GT SWB, though was made using parts from an existing Ferrari 365GT over a 20 year period. It sold for an impressive £253,500 ($381,000).
In 2011, a genuine 250GT SWB sold for £3.1m ($5m).
The Ferrari 250GT SWB is considered by many collectors to be one of the most beautiful cars of all time and, in order to have one in his garage, the consignor decided to have his 365GT 2+2 converted. Completely dismantling the 365GT, the chassis was shortened while the coachwork was sent to a sheet-metal worker, who was once employed by master coachbuilder Giovanni Giordanengo of Cuneo.
Mechanically, the car is still a 365GT, boasting a 4.-litre V12 engine, five-speed gearbox and ventilated disc brakes.
Following the 365/250GT was a 1939 BMW 328 Roadster re-reation, which brought £135,900 ($204,341). Only 200 genuine examples of the car are known to exist today, with the model at auction originally believed to be one of them.
However, the discovery of another example with the same chassis number means that this example must be a re-creation, albeit a very convincing one. After a full restoration, the car presented a fantastic opportunity to own a BMW 328 at a fraction of the cost of a genuine example.
