Doctor Who's first car to auction for charity

Doctor Who star Matt Smith is to auction his very first car - the Vauxhall Corsa he purchased in 2000, before he was accepted into the National Youth Theatre - for the Starlight Children's Foundation.

Smith said of the car, which has been parked in his parent's drive since the actor found fame playing Doctor Who: "It has seen lots of adventures, not to mention a few mishaps.

"I'll be very sad to see it go."

Cars connected with famous names come to auction surprisingly frequently.

The Duchess of Cambridge's royal blue, 2001 VW Golf appeared on eBay in 2011. The Golf's owner, Sonny Brazil, optimistically described the vehicle as "the best piece of royal history any one could ever own." Despite receiving a top bid of £48,100 ($77,468), the car failed to meet its reserve.
