A 1990 Porsche type 962 led Bonhams' Spa Classic sale at Belgium's Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on May 24 with a final bid of $1.6m.
The model was raced lightly during the early 1990s, yet achieved 7th place in the 1993 Le Mans 24 Hours.

Bonhams explained in the run-up to the sale: "This Porsche 962 was to be the only car ever to compete at Le Mans in this 'official' 24-Hours livery.
"Having otherwise seen very little strenuous use in its long life beyond its brief - but actually very successful race history - having benefited from continuous maintenance within its caring single private ownership since delivery 25 years ago - the sale of this magnificent Coupe now represents a unique opportunity to acquire not only a Zeltweg-Hinterstoisser (today known as the Osterreichring) -winning Porsche, but also a unique part of Le Mans racing history."
A 1988 Porsche 959 Coupe made $764,750.
Just 292 were produced, making it one of the rarer Porsches of its era available on the market. The present lot belonged to the owner of a Frankfurt based dealership.
