A magnificent 1975 Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopica, one of the most iconic sports cars of recent times, has seen a new world record for the model at Bonhams' Goodwood Festival of Speed Sale, held on June 27 in the UK.

The Countach was a highly influential mid-engined supercar, responsible for inspiring the angled look of many modern high-performance cars.
The example at auction, an LP400 Periscopia, was the first production model produced and among the fastest, warranting its sale price of £953,500 ($1.6m).
The "Periscopia" part of its name comes from the periscope fitted to the roof, which provides a rear view for the driver.
The Countach was produced to follow the hugely successful Muira, one of the finest sports cars of the 1960s. It's success paralleled its predecessor, with production continuing from 1974 to 1990.
The top result of the day went to a beautiful and "brutally fast" 1954 Ferrari 375-Plus, which led bids at $18.2m.
Sadly, the Aston Martin Atom - a unique prototype car - that was due to be the central focus of the sale failed to attract enough attention and went unsold, though a 1964 DB4 Convertible didn't disappoint, selling for £701,500 ($1.1m).
The DB4 is one of only 70 built with the convertible roof, making it the rarest Aston Martin road car produced under the legendary reign of David Brown (the famous DB Series takes its name from his initials).
